The Longevity Drug Cerebrolysin and Its Brain-Repairing Powers

Getting cerebrolyin infusions has been traditionally difficult and expensive.

How old are you? Is your health really important to you, or just something you care about when you’re sick? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then you might be interested in learning more about a new kind of fountain of youth drug called cerebrolysin. This article will give you all the details on what it is, what it does, and how safe it actually is.

A Tale of Two Drugs

It’s clear that cerebrolysin is made from something more complex than your average nootropic supplement, but what are those proteins exactly?

And how do they give us such mind-blowing powers? The peptides it contains are actually broken down from an extract of pig brain called neuropeptide, which was first discovered by scientists working in Germany.

Although these scientists were looking for compounds that could stimulate growth in damaged nerves and repair neural tissue, their discovery also had a bunch of other positive effects on cognitive functions in healthy animals.

The peptides contained within their original source have subsequently been modified to create our favorite brain booster—cerebrolysin.

What Makes It Special?

The longevity drug cerebrolysin is well known to improve brain function. But its benefits are limited by its high cost, which has deterred people from purchasing it.

As a result, you can typically only purchase cerebrolysin in European countries with health care systems that make it more affordable for patients. Recently, DripDok has begun offering Cerebrolysin infusions in Bali to clients from all around the globe who cannot afford to get access to cerebrolysin directly from their doctors.

Cerebryolysin’s benefits include its ability to improve focus, concentration, learning capacity, recall, verbal fluency, overall intelligence and memory.

It can also enhance memory function when used alongside other anti-aging supplements such as resveratrol or huperzine A. Other ingredients that work well with cerebryolysin include flavonoids (green tea extract) for neuroprotection and long-term cognitive health.

What Is Cerebrolysin Used For?

When administered within the first few hours of stroke symptoms cerebrolysin has the ability to ameliorate and potentially reverse the stroke.

According to a 2007 study published in Neurology, cerebrolysin is a mixture of low-molecular peptides. It may have neuroprotective, neurotrophic repair properties and has been found to be beneficial for treatment of stroke victims. In addition, it has been used in Russia as an antiaging drug called NAP as well as to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

A 2012 study showed that cerebrolysin was effective at reducing cognitive impairment in people with Alzheimer’s or vascular dementia. This drug has also been studied for its potential use in treating Parkinson’s disease,

Huntington’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Additionally, some studies suggest that it can help improve memory function in healthy individuals.

It is especially powerful in restoring cognitive function in those that have suffered from traumatic brain injuries such as concussions or coma.

How Does It Work?

Balinese infusions are a type of plant extract that is intended to treat short-term brain damage from conditions such as strokes.

Cerebrolysin is a form of these extracts, meaning it comes with many of their benefits but also has some significant advantages. It can come in either oral or intravenous forms, although it should be noted that oral cerebrolysin isn’t as effective in your body because enzymes break down peptides in your stomach before they get into your bloodstream.

This means if you want to make sure cerebrolysin gets into your system fast, you’ll need to get an infusion and DripDok can help this happen.

Cerebrolysin not only protects brain cells and prevents their death, but has also been shown to improve recovery and improve the outcome of patients after strokes and traumatic brain injuries.

Two out of six studies were DB-RCTs and they showed over 600 patients recovering as a result of taking Cerebrolysin. Children with severe brain injuries had improvements in their communication skills (DB-RCT of 158 patients).

Additionally, cerebrolysin:

  • Encourages the birth of new brain cells (neurogenesis)
  • Helps decrease inflammation in the brain
  • Increases the brain’s cell-to-cell communication which enhances learning ability.
  • In order to increase brain energy, your cells need to take up glucose, which makes cells increase protein production.
  • In testing, Cerebrolysin showed a notable increase in the production of new synapses in the hippocampus.
  • It has been shown to have protective and reparative effects on the nervous system and vascular system.
  • Improvements to brain cell integrity and function
  • Reduces free radicals drastically

Dangers, Side Effects, and Negatives

RISKS AND PRECAUTIONS

Cerebrolysin is generally safe and does not cause any permanent or long-term side effects. Symptoms, if any, are usually temporary and mild. Side effects may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Initial sleep disruption (needing more sleep initially as brain restores)
  • Sweating
  • Weight loss
  • Anxiety
  • Feelings of fatigue during first 3 days
  • Low grade fever
  • Loose stools
  • Mild Nausea

These symptoms are encountered in less than 5% of the population and are transient in nature.  Many of them are due to the body working hard to restore the brain’s functioning.  Sleep is the most important part of the process.

Precautions for Use With Other Medications

Cerebrolysin infusions should not be taken with any medication as it may alter their properties. Antidepressants, benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants and sleeping pills should never be taken with cerebryolyin. These are only a few of many medicines that can interact with cerebryolyin in a negative way.

Suggested Use

Your doctor at DripDok will determine the best course of action for your cerebrolysin infusions.

Typically protocols follow these general guidelines:

Disorder

Stroke 20 – 50 ml as soon as possible 10 – 21 days

Traumatic brain injury 20 – 50 ml as soon as possible 7 – 30 days

Vascular dementia 10 – 30 ml as soon as possible 1 cycle: 5 days weekly/4 weeks

2-4 cycles per year

Alzheimer’s disease 10 – 30 ml as soon as possible 1 cycle: 5 days weekly/4 weeks

2-4 cycles per year

Cognitive restoration from a past injury or nootropic guidelines – 10ml for 10 days followed by reassessment.  However, your doctor at DripDok will assess and explain before beginning treatment.

Final Thoughts on Cerebrolysin

Clinical trials have shown that cerebrolysin may improve memory function in people of older age and those with schizophrenia, although the results are rather modest.

A study involving schizophrenic patients showed improved memory and cognition with the use of Cerebrolysin. An experimental peptide preparation called Cerebrolysin could improve memory performance but not verbal fluency, which was less than the effects of currently approved drugs for Alzheimer’s disease.

There have been reports of healthy seniors performing better on memory tests after receiving one dose of cerebrolysin, but it’s not clear if the beneficial effects can be credited to the drug itself or just the placebo effect.

Clinical trials to measure the effects of cerebrolysin on prevention of dementia are yet to be performed, but the animal data strongly supports its utility. Cerebrolysin has been found to protect neurons, brain slices, and alleviate cognitive impairment, making it a good candidate for possible treatments against Alzheimer’s disease.
